Hall of Transgenic Organisms of New York State

Opens November 1, 2008 - Installation by Rich Pell

Don’t miss this highly-engaging installation by the Center for PostNatural History, a public art organization based in Pittsburgh, PA, which focuses on genetically-altered life forms that live, grow, and are created in New York State. See displays of Glo-Fish®, dioramas of Spider Goats, and more! This installation encourages you to consider the impact and implications of genetic research in your life, and explore your own ethical reaction to the science of genetics.

This installation is made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

Inside Out: MRI and You

New Exhibit: NOW OPEN

Explore the science behind a landmark medical imaging system developed right here in the Capital Region. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has transformed health care and revolutionized the methods doctors use to diagnose patients. Get inside a real MRI machine! See images of insides on the outside! Discover how MRI technology is shaping the future!

Power House

Science is everywhere!  A centerpiece in our move toward our new mission, this exhibit illustrates how much fun is involved in science!

Experience the power to change the world!  Observe energy and discover invisible forces.  Be inspired by old and new technologies, like the science of Silly Putty, an accidental invention created right here at GE, and the science behind nanotechnology and the man-made diamond. This exhibit illustrates the huge impact science has on our everyday lives.

Interactives everywhere!  Experiment with science principles at play in everyday life with NEW hands-on, brains-on interactives like the Invisible Man, the Battle of the Giant Magnets, and the Bridge of Fire.

Fueling the Future

Worldwide, the number of automobiles continues to increase. How will we fuel them? Explore opportunities and challenges of different fuels, including gasoline, ethanol, hydrogen, biodiesel, electricity, and yes, even horsepower!

See how different fuels affect the economy and the environment, with interactives, images, video, and artifacts from our collection, including a one-of-a-kind prototype electric car developed by GE in 1978.

Chemical Innovation: Developing the Essentials

This exhibit explores the essential role of chemistry in everyday life, and commemorates the 100th anniversary of SI Group (formerly Schenectady International). The exhibit includes examples of everyday consumer products that use SI Group products, interactive quizzes about chemistry, and a laboratory space where Museum educators and chemists from the community will be able to conduct hands-on demonstrations.

This exhibit is made possible by SI Group.
